Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At Castor Valley there are many measures of student achievement:

Formal reporting to parents occurs three times a year through a progress report (Nov. 7), two report cards (Feb. 5 and June 27), and parent/teacher consultations. Assessments of reading through PM benchmarks, GB+ benchmarks, Évaluation rapide de la compréhension en lecture and kinder ELOT provide us with information on student progress, and guide the delivery of instruction. We use these tools along with EQAO results to plan improvement initiatives for our school.

As well, students participate and demonstrate great success in areas of Music, Math (Caribou Math, Gauss Math). In the area of athletics, our students perform consistently well at meets for cross-country and track and field. Our junior and intermediate students have won numerous banners at regional tournaments in various sports.

Grade 8 School Leaving Awards honour students for excellence in academics, athletics, the arts, citizenship, character and outstanding contributions to our school.

Combined with EQAO results our school improvement initiatives are based on the above.
