Community Update October 1st

Good afternoon Castor Valley families,

I can’t believe that we are already into the month of October!  Students and staff have been accustomed to the routines of school again and the sounds of learning, laughing and socializing are all around us!

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment, we invite you to join our CVES  Inclusive, Safe and Caring Schools’ Committee.  This committee brings parents and staff together for the purpose of planning and implementing inclusive and equitable practices at Castor Valley.

Please see

Student Verification sheets have gone home for updates.  Please write new information or changes directly on the sheet and return it to your child’s teacher by Oct. 13th.

Early Student Pick Up

If you need to pick your child up during the school day, for an appointment or activity, we ask that you consider the following:

  • Schedule appointments before or after school whenever possible.  Classes begin at 9:25am, and the last hour of our school day is an instructional block that is an important part of all students’ learning.
  • If planning to pick up your child during the school day is unavoidable, pick ups during our breaks are preferred, i.e.,11:25-12:05pm or 2:05-2:45pm.

  • Notify the school of the required pick up time by emailing your child’s homeroom teacher and the main office at [email protected] before 10:00am, so we can plan to have your child ready without having to interrupt the class’ instructional time.

  • There will be no school day pick ups after 3:00pm. If you arrive after this time you will have to wait in line with the other cars. This is for the safety of the students as our buses will have arrived and the loading zone must be clear of all other traffic.

With the fall season upon us, please send your child with weather-appropriate clothing, e.g., layers such as hoodies and/or jackets, mitts, etc.  Two sets of shoes: an outdoor pair and an indoor pair would also be helpful as more and more gym classes are inside.

Please join us in recognizing the commitment and effort that our teachers make every day on World Teachers’ Day this Tuesday, October 5th. Thank you to our awesome CVES teachers!

CVES will be hosting an online, Virtual Scholastic Book Fair during the week of October 18-22. Books are ordered online, and paid for through Shopify HOWEVER, books will be delivered to the School for students to PU. This is to save families from having to pay shipping fees.

Our goal is $ 3,000.00 in sales which will mean $ 500.00 in book credits for the school.

More information and link to use will be coming in the next week or so.

Thank you for your donations to our Annual Terry Fox Walk. We will be donating $850.00 to the Terry Fox Foundation on behalf of CVES.
